One of the main factors that went against the Grainfather was the ongoing debacle with the controller software app. I did seriously look at the Grainfather and lower cost "Guten" type alternatives, but in the end I decided to go for the elegant design and solid build quality that appeared evident in the various on-line reviews of the Brewtools gear. Obviously having the ready cash was a big factor, as by the time these units get to Australia, they are far from cheap. After a fair bit of research I decided on the Brewtools B40pro. The aims were simple: move inside the shed, make the brewing process more time efficient, make the cleanup easier and cut down on space required. Having recently come into some money after an Uncle passed away, I decided it was time to reinvigorate the brewing obsession and redesign my brewery. I found as a result of this and having recently developed a running obsession (paradoxically so I could enjoy beer more) that I was brewing less and less. Also made it very difficult to keep it clean and to keep "nature" out of the various pipes and connectors. This made brewing in the afternoon all but impossible, especially in summer and required very early starts to the brew day to avoid being burnt to a crisp in the afternoon sun. I had been brewing all grain for some time using a 3V system (no mash temp control) in a roofed but open sided 3圆m bay of my shed, which I stupidly located at the Western end. I finally pulled the trigger and put a preorder in for a B40pro plus accessory kit from NewEra Brewing leading up to Christmas 2019. OK, here is my experience with the first batch on the B40pro, warts and all. There is a Too Long Didn't Read (TL DR) section at the end if you are easily bored.
